Advisory Team + Architect 1-1 Meetings

On Friday, May 10, and Monday, May 13, architects Kevin Locke and Brian Buckner held 17 meetings, with 20 different Woodford County Schools employees to learn about current programing and student needs for the new high school.

The architects utilized guiding questions to discuss with each advisory team members. A sample of those questions are below to provide context for the goal and content of those conversations:

  • What spaces are currently used for this department?  Are they sufficient in size? layout? equipment? What do you like about the way these rooms work?  What do you not like about the way these rooms work?
  • What other programs should this program be grouped with?  Adjacent to what programs? What programs should this program be separated from (for functional and/or acoustical issues)?
  • How many periods during the day is each space occupied for classes?
  • Could this space be used for other programs when vacant?
  • What is the approximate anticipated total enrollment for this curriculum program for the purpose of planning the correct number of classrooms?
  • What spaces need to be provided to accommodate this program in the new building?
  • For each room consider how the room is related to the rest of the program, how each room should be laid out and what equipment is to be provided in each room.
  • What type and how much storage space are needed?
  • Is there any built-in casework required?  If so, how much?
  • Are there any special HVAC requirements?
  • Are there any special plumbing requirements (sinks, water, etc.)?
  • Are there any special electrical and/or data requirements (outlets, etc.)?
  • Are there any special lighting requirements?
  • What other equipment should be provided?
  • What technology should be provided (projector, interactive board, TV monitor, computers)?  How many?
  • How should each space be laid out?
  • Do any classrooms or programs require exterior doors and/or direct access to parking or outdoors?
  • Are exterior windows desired?
  • What type of seating should be accommodated?  Tables & chairs? Tablet arm chairs?
  • What are the requirements for adjacency to other rooms?  Should there be doors or interior windows between rooms?
  • How many students should the room accommodate?
